Sustainable Disaster Recovery
Conservation Lecture Series
Here in central Oklahoma we regularly deal with tornados, ice storms, earthquakes and floods.
After natural disasters how can we rebuild to be more resilient in the future?
Join us this Tuesday evening to learn about Sustainable Disaster Recovery as part of the Conservation Lecture Series.
Discover the value of integrating sustainable practices into rebuilding and planning in communities by attending this free presentation offered by the City of Oklahoma City from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15.
The presentation takes place at OSU-OKC’s Student Union Center, 900 N. Portland (click here for map).
Daniel Wallach is executive director and founder of Greensburg GreenTown, a non-profit organization that conceptualized and helped lead the sustainable rebuilding of Greensburg, Kansas, following the tornado that wiped out the town in 2007.
Wallach will walk attendees through the challenges and opportunities inherent in disaster recovery and the value of integrating sustainable practices into communities looking at a fresh start.
RSVP for this workshop at http://sustainability.register110.com.
The workshop is part of the Conservation Lecture Series sponsored by Oklahoma City’s Office of Sustainability in association with Sustainable OKC with funding from an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant from the US Department of Energy.
The presentation is a service of Oklahoma City’s Office of Sustainability. The Office of Sustainability coordinates energy efficiency upgrades and provides technical recommendations, sustainability planning and outreach services to City departments and the public.

Moving Planet Recap
More than 170+ families, students, community partners, athletes, and public health and sustainability advocates had a blast at Moving Planet OK action-art-festival. The festival celebrated Oklahoma’s progress to date in health and sustainability and advocated the goal of becoming a top-10 state in health and sustainability. An art auction and festive handmade glass ornaments raised money for Close to Earth, a local non-profit working with at-risk youth to teach them organic gardening. Moving Planet OK was collaboratively organized by a wide variety of partners, and the University of Central Oklahoma, Transition OKC, Sustainable OKC & Sierra Club served as presenting sponsors. Hat tip to our Transition OKC program volunteers for working so hard to help make this event happen. See more photos of this inspiring event on Moving Planet OK’s Facebook page.
Special thanks to the following sponsors
